When Essence and Dante asked if I would travel to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic to shoot their wedding, I was like…”Uhmmmm…YES!” Their engagement session was travel themed since it was a destination wedding. You can see their engagement session here! That was the beginning of our friendship!
The party started when we got to the airport and saw that around 15 people of the wedding party were on our plane! United, we traveled to the Melia Caribe Tropical Resort on 9/10/2015. What a breath taking view. Upon arrival at the resort, I immediately began pondering the step ups and shots that I needed to capture the Essence ( no pun intended) of what this wedding meant to Dante and Essence.
After what proved to be a hard start to the year with losing her grandfather and grandmother, this escape to paradise would allow for a a bit of rest and reflection of the things that matter. Surrounded by those closest to them, Essence and Dante, provided an experience of paradise from the very beginning. We were all treated to adorable gift that included a tropical survival kit and a welcome letter in a bottle.
There was no detail left to wonder. They worked so hard to make sure that everyone enjoyed themselves. As you will see, even with the loss she and her mother experienced, the love that surrounded them gave a true sense of warmth. What an absolutely gorgeous wedding with some of the most genuinely kind people I have ever had the pleasure of now calling my friends.
Each dress that Essence wore had something of tender sentiment to express. Her 1st gown included a heart of denim. One half was from her grandfathers jeans and the other half of the heart was from her grandmothers favorite jean shirt. Truly, part of them was with her…Her 2nd gown included a quote from Mae West that says “You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough”. While each dress was different, this quote brought them together. It truly showed that though her grandparents where not there, the life they lived was passed on to those they loved..there love was enough…
They decided that they did not want to do a traditional 1st look, but they did want to exchange gifts, and have some images taken, so we did a back to back gift exchange. Gosh…it was perfect! There were tears and smiles. Essence gave Dante a gorgeous watch and the inscription on the box said “Sometimes we may forget all the things we did for love, the moment we could not stop laughing, the times we stayed up talking the surprises that never seem to stop …but this moment we will remember forever“
